image1 (1)Emily Houpt grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina and from an early age has had an interest in politics and international affairs.  In 2010 Emily went abroad for the first time to Costa Rica where she learned the valuable lesson that everyone in the world has similarities no matter who they are.  In 2013 Emily again went abroad, this time to Europe.  She mostly spent time in Germany and Italy, with days spent in Switzerland as well.  Emily returned to Germany in 2017 for a spring break trip led by UNCC faculty where she toured Berlin and learned the history of Germany from the earliest days of the nation to modern times.

In 2016 Emily transferred to UNCC to major in International Studies with minors in Political Science and Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights.  Emily’s favorite part about her field of study is learning the history of different nations and peoples, and how shared histories have contributed to the events of today.  As Emily has discovered more about the world and human rights, her passion for international affairs has grown turning her into an avid viewer of Al Jazeera, which adds a global perspective to the stories she hears on NPR.

When Emily is not interning or in school, she works at a local grocery chain where she enjoys interacting with co-workers and customers.  In her spare time, Emily likes to read, study Arabic, watch Netflix, and write stories.
